On the way to recovery
On the second anniversary of Tsunami Lankanet handed over three computers to the surviving youths who have followed the training course on computer literacy.
These computers with printers were handed over to the leaders of organizations who are involved in the ICT awareness and employment oriented programme for tsunami survivors.
The training course and the supply of PCs is funded by Cafod.
Lankanet invited five youths from each organization to participate in the two fiveday training programmes conducted at the Lankanet office.
These computers and the e-mail facilities will be used to enhance the computer skills of the participant so that they will be able to find suitable employment in the area or elsewhere. In the mean time they are expected to train more eligible youths from the area with similar background.
The criteria for the selection of participants are a passed in O’level with English and being in low income group. Income should be certified by the GS of the area.
United Fishermen and Fish workers Union of Ratmalana, Manawa Sakthi Foundation of Pereliya and Galle received the computers on behalf of the trainees. |
